Angry Birds
59p/99C Time to get your eggs back
We're not sure 'angry' is the right description for the birds in this game - 'downright furious' is perhaps nearer the mark. After all, they're willing to catapult themselves, kamikaze-style, at green cartoon pigs that are holed up in ramshackle structures made of wood and stone. The pigs only have themselves to blame, mind - they stole the birds' eggs!
Your job is to help the birds dispose of the pigs by firing them at the various structures. Some birds have special powers that are activated by a tap (such as firing bomb-like eggs or exploding), and unstable structures topple over and collapse. The trick is to figure out how best to complete each of the 165 levels using the minimum number of birds, Although there's the occasional difficulty wall, for the most part Angry Birds gently ramps up the trickiness as you progress, and there's no penalty for restarts - you get as many attempts as you like at each level and you can always continue where you left off. Even during the most frustrating moments on particularly devious levels, it's hard not to be taken in by the game's gloriously bonkers premise.
The new update is especially generous, including a new world, a new bird and a whole host of new achievements just waiting to be unlocked. It's no wonder Angry Birds consistently finds itself at the top of the App Store charts. Simply fantastic.
