BBC News

Expertly re-purposes the Beeb's website and should be an essential part of your current affairs diet.

Free One of the best news apps around

The BBC has only just started to appreciate the Android platform, by offering the iPlayer up as an Android application.

The Beeb's extremely good - and extremely popular - news websites, though, have yet to be ported on to Google's phone platform, in an official capacity anyway. One of the best

unofficial apps that does this is BBC News. And in a strange way, the app has some sort of BBC seal of approval, as it has been created with the help of BBC Backstage.

Whether an app is sanctioned by the BBC or not, however, is of little relevance when it works as well as BBC News for Android works.

Essentially the app reformats the BBC website to fit the Android platform and it does it all in a really speedy manner Each story is given a paragraph and an image and you simply have to scroll down to whichever story takes your fancy. Click the link and the full article will then be revealed for your reading pleasure.

Once you have read a story, it will disappear from the news feed and an unread story will take its place. You can also change the feed to whatever category you want, even sport, which makes this app a must-have.
