Be the first to see Premiership goals as they go in, but be aware you wont be able to save them
Soccer fans will find much to enjoy in this expansive app with good free content and killer paid-for stuff.
Free Football is the winner
This free download provides live scores, news and statistics for various football leagues. For an additional fee you'll get videos of all Premier League goals shortly after they go in. No other app offers the same service as ESPN owns the mobile rights to the footie, so not even Sky Sports can show goals as quickly. If you're a Premier League fanatic, it's well worth considering.
There are three pricing opt ons for this premium content. A season's sub is £29.99/$48, and you can opt in for 90 days for £10.99/$17.81, and 30 days for £3.99/$6.47. Our suggestion is :o take a 30-day trial first, and see how much use you get out of it. It's abo worth noting that UEFA rules mean that goals scored on a Saturday between 3pm and 5.15pm aren't available to watch until after 5:15pm. Furthermore, you can only view each goal once; there's no option to download the video file for repeated viewing.
The plus side of the app is the wealth of data that the free portion of ESPN Goals provides, including news and video clips, live scores with updated text commentary, tables and player stats. It's not restricted to the Premier League,
either. Fans of England's football league and Scotland's Clydesdale Premier League are catered for, plus there's info on the Champions' League, the Europa League and international matches.
Using the app is pleasingly straightforward, with the interface,
ESPN owns the mobile rights to the footie, so not even Sky Sports can show goals as quickly
decked out in ESPN's familiar red and black livery, offering sub-menus for new3, fixtures, video and more. The statistics pages are not too text-heavy either, with large images of individual players and easy-to-read irfo. Not like browsing web pages on your phone - just as an app should be.
Whether you'll want to install ESPN Goals will depend on how committed you are to seeing Premier League goal action before anyone else. The free portion of the app is packed with the detail aid easy to use, but it's premium content that stands out as its key selling point.
