Have fun with Photo Booth

Take twisted, weird and wacky pictures of yourself with the iPad 2's built-in photo app .

The Light Tunnel effect makes it appear that you are travelling at incredible speeds.

As should now be clear,Apple has added two cameras to the iPad 2's feature set. It could have stopped there and just let you get on with it, but to add a splash of fun to the proceedings and highlight just how versatile they are, Apple has also installed this infectious little app as standard.

Photo Booth is as simple as they come. Just point one of the iPad 2's cameras it your subject, choose one of its eight wacky effects and snap away. Once you've captured your madcap portrait, you can then share it at the tap of a button.

Photo Booth began life as a Mac OS X application designed to showcase the iSight camera included on Macs. Now that Apple has decided to include cameras an the iPad, it made sense to bring Photo Booth to its tablet computer.

The iPad edition comes with eight effects (nine if you include normal). The visual effects are Thermal Camera, Mirror, X-Ray, Kaleidoscope, Light Tunnel, squeeze,Twirl and Stretch. Click on one of the effects as soon as you fire up the ipp and you can see the effect in real-time on the display as you move the iPad around. Press the snap button at the bottom of the screen to take the picture. You can't add effects to images after you've taken them, or change the effect that has been added to the picture. The idea is to choose an effect and get a photo.

It is possible to take pictures using both of the cameras on the iPad, to snap either yourself or whatever you are looking at.

It's actually really useful to be able to take quick snaps with cool effects, and with a bit of practice it's possible to take some great looking shots, although most of the time you'll produce comical effects rather than gorgeous pictures (this compliments the iPad 2's reasonably low-spec camera, however, which isn't ideally suited to high-end photo work).

Once you've taken pictures in Photo Booth you can share them using the email functionality of the iPad, which will give your friends something to laugh about. Alternatively, you can copy and paste the images using them in any supporting app or Website. Being able to paste quick snaps of yourself (or whatever you are looking at) is more useful than you'd imagine.

Photo Booth is really more just for fun than anything, and you'd be surprised at how much fun it is to entertain children with Photo Booth and an iPad 2.

Using Photo Booth is one of the easiest apps on the iPad, but there are a few tricks and tips that will help you get the most out of this great application from Apple.

Read on to find out how it works.
