iPhone Weather

The weather application closely mimics the weather widget on the Dashboard found in Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5. It is a simple, graphical representation of the forecast for the next six days, with a large icon at the top showing the current conditions. It is updated by the minute, so you may even notice that this changes for your local area in perfect synchronisation with conditions outside your window.

Like its Dashboard equivalent, the weather widget is a two-sided application. One side is the forecast itself; the other is where you set it up. Tap the i button in the lower right-hand corner to flip it around and then enter the name of the city you want to add to the application. Bear in mind that not all locations will be covered, as not all have a local weather centre, so you may have to try nearby places if yours is missing. Airports are usually covered as accurate weather forecasting is crucial to safe flying, so if you live close to an airfield, try that instead of your home town.

Add as many cities as you need and then flip with widget back around to show the forecasts. If you added more than one you can now scroll through them in the same way you flick through photos in the iPhone camera album, by sliding them across the screen with your finger. The dots at the bottom of the screen show you how many cities have been added to the application, with the brightest showing you the position in the stack of the one you are currently viewing. A final function is integration with Yahoo guides. Tap the Y! icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen to check out an events guide for the current active city.
