Google Maps has long been called upon by traditional Internet users, who've looked up locations, planned routes and got themselves tailor-made directions using the free service on desktop computers. Now it's possible to use Google Maps on just about any mobile device, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab delivers the ideal platform for getting the best from this navigational tool, thanks to its powerful mobile connectivity, GPS functionality and decent screen size.
The Android operating system is favoured by many mobile device users for its very sprightly performance and, in the case of using Google Maps for navigation, it's a highly responsive tool that delivers snappy results in seconds. You'll find that Google Maps comes preinstalled on Android and it nestles alongside many other useful widgets on the default layout of the desktop.
It's not until you launch it, however, and start exploring the tools inside that its full appeal becomes obvious. It's also an invaluable aid for pinpointing exact locations, due to the fact that Google Maps can draw on sophisticated GPS coordinates to home in on any location.
Adding extra value to this multi-faceted software tool inside Android is the ability to segment Google Maps into 'Layers'.This fantastic concept allows you to view not only regular map views of selected locations but also satellite imagery and other everyday essentials such as traffic, terrain and the quirky'Buzz'.The latter is a neat addition to the Google Maps tool bar arsenal in that it allows anyone to essentially hear the word on the street from individuals who are located in the area that you're viewing. There are also options such as 'My Location' and 'Latitude' that add an additional human touch to proceedings, all of which makes Google Maps one of the first places you should visit when you power up a Samsung Galaxy Tab device for the first time. There's also a Google Maps 'Navigation' option that continues to be developed and could end up used by many as an alternative option to traditional satellite navigation products and services.
