An app that passes muster on the strength of its content, though a non-beta version would be nice.
Free Top content, shame about the beta tag
The New Scientist has been fairly savvy with technology. The magazine got a fully fledged website back in 1996 and the periodical has long been a champion for anything science and technology-related.
The New Scientist app, at a mere 305k, is a decent one. This is because it is a free resource into the numerous fascinating subjects that the New Scientist covers. Essentially this means that anything on its website can be accessed from the application - which is a bonus for those who want to read about scientific developments on the go.
As forward-thinking as the content of the app is though, the application itself seems to be frozen as a 'work in progress'.
Since it has appeared on the Android Market it has worn the beta tag. To be honest, the app is so slick and easy to use that the beta tag could be removed and nobody would have noticed.
While the beta tag doesn't hamper proceedings, though, it does make you think that it is not as professional as it could be.
Saying that, the content of The New Scientist is so good that you don't mind too much that it is a somewhat forgotten beta.
