Take credit cards out of online shopping. Will be more useful when QR codes are widespread.
Free Shopping made simple
Quick Response - or QR -barcodes may have been around since the mid-90s, but they're still relatively unknown in the UK. It's a shame, because they are a good idea that help to simplify the act of shopping. But the rise of apps like PortaPayments may help bring them to the public consciousness.
PortaPayments acts as a code generator for if you're selling goods. All you do is add one of these freely generated codes (you choose how much it's worth) to a flyer, and anyone who's passing can scan it using their mobile phone, providing they've got PortaPayments installed. Then they can see more information on the goods you're hawking, and even buy them directly from their phone.
The financial transaction side of things is handled by PayPal, so you don't need to faff around with account numbers or credit cards, just enter the email address you're registered with when you start it up and it'll do the rest.
The app is simple to get to grips with, the only drawback is the relative paucity of these QR codes - currently it seems to be the big companies using tiem most, or Pepsi cans and the like. But if they ever take off, this will be essential.
