IPone 4 - Sending and receiving texts

Exchange messages with mobiles



 

Texting is a totally different experience with the iPhone 4's on-screen QWERTY keyboard. Both SMS and MMS are supported, so you can exchange messages and pictures with any mobile phone user. When you first get your iPhone, your network carrier will probably send you a text telling you how to activate picture messaging, or MMS.

By default, incoming texts pop up in the middle of the screen as soon as they arrive, on top of whatever you're doing. If your screen isn't locked, you'll see buttons to Close or Reply. The Show Preview option and others, can be changed in Settings > Messages.

HOW TO / Compose messages

  Touch the Messages icon to launch the app. The main view lists the name of each person you've communicated with, followed by the last text to or from them. You can also search through all messages at the top.


Touch any item to see all texts between you and that person. At the top are Call and Contact Info buttons, You can type a reply below straight away, or tap Messages to return to the main view.


 The pen and paper at the top right creates a new text. Start typing a name to fetch it from your contacts; tap the + to browse contacts; or enter a phone number and press Return You can add multiple recipients.



 When you've added the intended recipients, tap the text box below and type your message. You can turn the iPhone into landscape for a bigger keyboard, To send a picture, tap the camera beside the text box.


 Choose to add an existing image from your photo albums or take one with your iPhone's camera, A thumbnail of the picture you've chosen appears in the message body, to which you can add your text, When you're ready, tap Send, A bar will show you the sending progress. If someone sends you a message with a picture, tap the image to view it.



HOW TO / Forward or delete texts




Whether it's one you've sent or received, there'll be the occasional text you want to forget. In the main Messages view, tap Edit, then touch a red minus sign to delete an entire conversation. Alternatively, tap to view a series of messages, then touch Edit and select Clear All or tap the circles to the left of each message to tick them, then touch Delete. You can forward messages to other recipients, too. Tick them and press Forward.
