3G Watchdog Pro

Guarding you against costly 3G overages, this excellent app is indispensable for frequent travellers.

£L90/$3 Manage your data

The problem with owning a smartphone is that you use data - and lots of it.

This wasn't such a problem when networks were more generous with data, but 2010 saw a definite shift in attitude of the networks. Unlimited data now costs big and you're more likely to have 1GB or probably less attributed to your contract as a usable amount. Some networks will warn you if you're near your data unit, but wouldn't it be nice to know first. That's where 3G Watchdog Pro comes in.

In short, it's designed to take the sting out of predicting how much data you've got left. First, you need to a create yourself a user account and sign in, then you'll be able to track your usage. The best thing is that you can not only track data usage by application - amazingly handy - but you can also see graphs of
your daily and weekly usage and even export it as a .csv file to a spreadsheet should you wish. What's more, the app will also tell you whether it thinks you'll go over your data limit by the time of your next bill based on your daily usage levels. A widget sits on your Android home screen to keep you informed.

The app will also be indispensable for frequent travellers, as you can track roaming usage.

3G Watchdog Pro is worth every penny, but if you're not sure if you want to shell out for the app right away, there's a free version available which keeps basic track of your mobile internet usage.
