In 2010, Apple surprised the world and reinvented the tablet concept. This year, more precisely one month ago, the IT industry stopped to place their eyes on a special event held by the Cupertino company.
The iPad 2 had arrived!
The question is: Will the second generation iPad take this technology revolution to an even higher level?
A survey answered by more than 4500 individuals in 71 countries revealed that the announcement of the iPad 2 didn't create the "wow" effect that was expected. Why you may ask?
According to the survey, only 21% found the iPad 2 to be another revolutionary device from Apple. Yet, majority of respondents think the device was just a simple upgrade to the former iPad (38%).
14% even answered that they expected more from Apple.
Among current iPad owners, 42% consider the newer version as a simple evolution from the previous model.
When asked to compare the iPad 2 to other recent tablets, nearly two-thirds of respondents agreed the iPad 2 was the superior device. Yet, 7% of voters found the iPad secondary to competing tablets.
The raster dual-core A5 chip was voted as the most important new feature, with 28% of the votes, slightly ahead of the dual camera/facetime capability (26%).
Yet, among women, the dual camera/face time capability was considered to be more important.
However, more than half of" the users believe that the iPad 2 is missing a USB port connection, and 41% were expecting a retina display
This survey also revealed that only 12% of the respondents are expecting to buy an iPad 2 within the next three months (raising to 20% among iPad 1 users), and 40% of them are quite positive they will never buy the device.
The price and the lack of interest in tablets are the most common referenced issues.
You may still be puzzled about why the iPad 2 release did not create the "wow effect" it should have, but it was found that the public pleasantly accepted the new Smart Cover with open arms.
In fact, 70% of voters declared that this accessory was revolutionary or a smart idea. Since the general respondents do not share the same revolutionary impression about iPad 2, it was clear that the new Smart Cover overshadowed the brand new device!
Is apple losing its ability to shine? It was all sparkles in the beginning. Apple might be losing its touch.
You know what they say, 'it can't be fireworks all the time' It seems that this also applies to technology.
