Free - Communication failure
This app sounds fantastic in theory but in the end it's nothing more than a load of Kakao. The idea is sound. It offers a BlackBerry Messenger style experience, prettily optimised for iPhone and Android handsets allowing users to not only send free messages and multimedia content to their friends over the 3G connection, but also to chat in groups.
The idea is to download the free app and register your phone number. Once you do that, all of your contacts that are also using the service will automatically appear In your KakaoTalk friends list. Out of the 200 or so contacts in our phonebook, guess how
many of them are using Kakao? Yep, that's right. A big fat zero.
The usefulness of this app is going to depend on making accords with your friends. It is, after all, very well designed and easy to use. But if you're on Android you're probably using Gtalk or Skype to chat with your friends already.
Reviews on the Android Market are full of apparently horny punters asking you to add their serial numbers, so if you fancy some Chat Roulette-style action then you're good to go.
It's going to be difficult for Kakao to gain traction with those established systems already in place. Nice app, though.
