Free Encyclopaedic knowledge
Quickpedia is an Android app which makes browsing online encyclopaedia Wikipedia on your phone that little bit easier. Simply set out, you have just five tabs to choose from: Search, Featured, Popular, News and Nearby.
This makes the app a joy to use -though we will say that the Popular tab is a little redundant as it only marks the most popular a'ticles of all time and isn't reactive.
Each article is primed for the phone and you can toggle toggle font sizes to your liking. The News section works well, pulling out recent news content and linking within the articles to older content.
Takes up hardly any space on your phone but provides you with a bottomless fount of information.
The revelation here though is the Nearby section. This utilises your phone's GPS and will offer will get content for you about the surrounding area. So if you are in, say, London, for the first time,
Quickpedia will tell you about its history, the London Eye and any other bits of information you might want. It's simple but effective.
While it may not have that many more features than Wikipedia's own Mobile version of its site, Quickpedia has just enough to keep you coming back for more and it takes up hardly any space on your phone.
