Remarkably powerful and, in the right hands, extremely useful, but you need to know how to use it.
£1.23/$1.99 Get the knowledge
The makers behind Wolfram Alpha certainly have lofty ambitions for their so-called 'computational knowledge engine'.
When the application was launched on the iPhone App Store it was first offered for the not Insignificant sum of $50. Was it worth the money?
No, it seems, as it was soon slashed to $1.99, which, coincidental^, is alsc the price on the Android Market now.
However, it is seriously good for those of us who need to work out convoluted maths equations online and find out information like the GDP of a certain city. This is what makes Wolfram Alpha great: it thinks outside of the box to bring you a mountain of interesting facts.
Type in 'London' and it will give you a whole host of factual nuggets. Students, scientists and mathematicians will find a lot of value here. The only problem is that you need to know how to use it properly to get the most out of it and there is nothing to help you with this.
If you already use Wolfram Alpha frequently, though, this is the way to take all that knowledge on the move. So :he amount being charged represents something of a steal, but $50? No way.
