Picsel Smart Office

View and edit documents on the move, though it'll take up a huge chunk of your handset's memory

Takes up a lot of memory, but this office app is so good that you won't care about its size.

£5.99/$9.71 Take your office anywhere

The tagline for Picsel Smart Office is Take your office - anywhere', which is exactly what you can do with this app, as it acts as age-between for your computer and smartphone. At its heart. Picsel Smart Office is a document viewer and editor, and we have to say that it is one of the best that we have used on the Android platform.

Firstly, though, a word of warning: this app is absolutely massive. If you want to load it on to your device it's going to take up 16MB of your memory. It's no exaggeration to say that our phone felt heavier after downloading it.

The app is so good, though, that you won't care about its size. You will be tempted to do a little bit of doc tinkering at all hours, though, which is always a bit of a danger.

The layout is intuitive. The first screen you get is the option to open up a document. Formats that the app takes include: doc, docx, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx, pdf, Office Adobe, jpg, png, bmp and gif.

Google Docs isn't supported, which isn't the worst thing in the world, but as it is on the Android Market, It would have been nice to have this included. When you flow a Word document in, it resizes it for the screen which is neat. Editing is as easy as texting, and fonts and things like holding and underlining are retained.

If your Word document has images in it, then these will also show up.

When dealing with things like spreadsheets, the app is intuitive enough to let you zoom into selected cells. In short: it works well to make sure that your phone's small screen size isn't a hindrance when working on a document.

The Coverflow look of the viewer is great, as is the seamless switching between editing and viewing.

You can even view documents in 3D, if you have a pair of anaglyph glasses. This is a gimmick too far for an application that doesn't need cheap tricks to prove itself. It works and is unchallenged for the sheer volume of things it can do - even if It costs a bit for the privilege.
